Code of Ethics for Reiki Practitioners and Reiki Master/Teachers

SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT

Practitioners and teachers strive to provide a safe and caring environment for clients and students.

RESPECT AND DIGNITY

Clients and students are treated with respect and dignity.

HIGHEST GOOD

The intention of the practitioner and teacher is always set for the highest good of the client and student.

PREPARE CLIENTS AND STUDENTS

Prepare clients and students by explaining to them in advance (either verbally or in written form) what a session entails and what objectives the course will meet.

AWARE THAT BODYMIND IS IN CONTROL

Ensure clients and students are aware that their bodymind is in control of their healing and that Reiki works with their body as one part of a holistic approach to healthcare.

RESPECT TOUCH OR SPACE BOUNDARIES

Practitioners will consult with clients and students in advance to ensure any issues around touch or space boundaries are respected.

SIGN CONSENT FORM

Have clients and students sign a consent form of understanding that Reiki sessions are not a substitute for medical care.

ALWAYS FULLY CLOTHED

Clients and students will always remain fully clothed during sessions and courses. Sensitive areas of the body will not be touched and if those areas need to be addressed, they will be focused on using a hands off technique.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Confidentiality. Any information shared between a client and practitioner in a Reiki session is confidential and not to be shared. All files related to the client and sessions are also stored in a secure location.

NEVER INTERFERE WITH MEDICAL TREATMENT

Never provide diagnostic information or prescriptive treatments. Practitioners will never interfere with the medical treatment clients and students are currently receiving, nor presume to diagnose any conditions.

REFER CLIENTS

When deemed necessary, refer clients to qualified licensed professionals (including but not limited to medical doctors, licensed therapists, etc.).

OPEN AND RESPECTFUL

Be open and respectful towards the beliefs and views others have around Reiki.

REFLECT PROFESSIONALISM

All communication online and in person with regard to Reiki will reflect professionalism as well as a desire to have harmony and balance within the global Reiki community.

ENCOURAGE TO EMBRACE ABILITY TO HEAL

Practitioners and Teachers will encourage their clients and students to embrace their ability to heal themselves through Reiki.

SET A POSITIVE EXAMPLE

Practitioners will make an effort to set examples within their community through volunteer work and by setting a positive example.

CONTINUED STUDY

Practitioners will ensure they continue to focus on their self-healing through Reiki sessions and continued study.

EMBODY PRINCIPLES

Practitioners will do their best each day to embody the principles of Reiki in their every-day life.
